World of Steam GalleryAs a lifelong railway enthusiast, it saddens me that ‘real’ steam around the world is now reduced to literally a handful of individual locomotives in remote industrial locations. The attraction of steam locomotives to the general public and enthusiasts alike has ensured their survival on preserved railways, tourist operations and special services, but it is never quite the same. This portfolio has therefore really been a labour of love, but it has managed to pay for itself with sales of images for books, calendars and magazines. A photo taken in an Indian locomotive depot won me $25,000 in the Ballantine’s International Photography Awards, and with Adrian Freeman and Gordon Edgar I have produced a book ‘China, The World’s Last Steam Railway’. |
