Morecambe Bay

The treacherous sands of Morecambe Bay have been in the news for the wrong reasons, with the deaths of the Chinese cockle pickers. This selection of images features the local fishermen who know the bay like the back of their hand and have continued to go about their business, primarily gathering cockles and, in season, fishing for shrimps. The cockle images were taken on the last day before the bay was closed to help preserve the dwindling stocks; it remains to be seen if and when cockling might be allowed to recommence.
