Mudhorse fishermenThe mudhorse is not directly used in fishing itself, rather it is a means of getting across treacherous mud flats to net positions beyond, and then returning with the catch. In the 1800's there were many fishing families using mudhorses along the coastline of the Bristol Channel. Over the years the numbers dwindled, maybe there were no sons in the family to take over, or maybe they were lured away by the regular work and wages offered by the local Hinkley Point nuclear power station. Today just one family work with the mudhorse, Brendan Sellick and his son Adrian. |
