Salmon - Drifts, T-nets & TrammelsOver the centuries, a wide variety of methods developed for catching salmon (which often apply to sea trout as well). For many years, these local variations were preserved by laws which largely allowed existing fishing rights to continue, but prevented any new or modified fishing practices. Only today are they under threat from pressures to conserve stocks. The images here feature the North East coast drift net fishery, the T-nets of the same area, and the last trammel netsmen of the River Dee. |
