Zimbabwe - Real steam

Although a handful of steam locomotives are still maintained for shunting work around Bulawayo, line working for steam was brought to a sudden end in May 1993 when the Canadian diesel salesman finally had his way. The logic of this was questionable to say the least, Zimbabwe having no oil of it's own but plentiful coal. Today, with no money to import oil, it is suggested that steam might make a return.
This selection is drawn from a portfolio taken in 1990, when steam still worked on the lines radiating from Bulawayo.
